Name: Openings to the World
Date: January 4, 2019
Time: 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM EST
Old Antiqua Church, Mark Mittleman
Event Description:

Fifth Avenue Art Gallery will begin the new year with Openings to the World. This is a members’ show offering a challenge to our artists to create work with doors and windows as the theme. Doors and windows not only make nice painting subjects but also can have deeper symbolic meanings. There will be a First Friday Opening Reception at the gallery on January 4 from 5:30 pm through 8:30 pm. Plan to begin your new year with a look at different views of this world through the eyes of our artists.

In the past many artists have explored the use of doors and windows. Sometimes they are employed to expand the view or create distance, or to even express a sense of intimacy. Further, the usage of doors and windows can also carry a symbolic or spiritual message. Historically you can look to Matisse, Magritte, Vermeer or Duchamps, to name a few, for examples of many works with doors or windows.

This exhibit will run from January 2 through January 26. Fifth Avenue Art Gallery is located in the Eau Gallie Arts District in Melbourne, FL. All events are free and open to the public.
