Though we are doing all we can to help those in need there is still much work that has to be done. The sad truth is that the current state of the economy is making our job far more difficult and making the lives of victims far more dangerous. In March 2010 the annual crime statistics for Florida were released by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Crime in general was down to the lowest rates in 39 years, however, domestic violence crimes were up. Overall, domestic violence represented 40.7% of all comparably reported violent crimes last year. The report, released in March by FDLE, reflects a stunning 15.6% increase in domestic violence-related murders and a 71.4% increase in domestic violence manslaughters. The domestic violence-related murders account for one out of every five murders statewide. The demand for emergency services has never been greater, and the resources have never been more scarce. As you think about your charitable giving this year please consider reaching out to the families we serve. Together we can change their lives forever.
